Urban Institute report on Public Housing Residents

December 6, 2004

The Urban Institute report entitled Health Woes Beset Residents From HOPE VI Public Housing describes health disparities among public housing residents. The Urban Institute report is based on research results gathered from five public housing facilities located in the east, west and north central areas of the country. A large portion of the residents in these urban facilities reported having chronic health conditions (particularly asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity), as well as having poor to fair health.

The Urban Institute provides specific recommendations for public housing authorities to more effectively support the health of its residents.
